Hope Reformed Church

Kalamazoo, MI

Hope Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan was very fortunate to have a donor come forward who wanted to purchase a new instrument for their church.  After looking at and hearing other alternatives, the donor was asked to hear the Rodgers 968 Trillium Masterpiece organ.  In a matter of minutes, the donor decided the 968 was the instrument for Hope Reformed.

Dave Lee, owner of Classic Music of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Larry Boekeloo, Sales Associate for Classic Music, began the installation on Monday, August 25.  By Wednesday, installation and voicing was complete and the organist was ready to work her magic.

Dedication of the instrument was during the morning worship service on Sunday, August 31 and a community-wide hymn sing was held that Sunday evening with an overflow crowd.

This was is an M. P. Möller two manual, 22-rank built in 1931. The console was worn out and a candidate for a custom Rodgers. The pipe portion needed restoration, which was performed by the Fowler Organ Co. of Lansing. Masterfully revoiced, the organ was interfaced and married to a new Rodgers T798 custom designed console by Classic Music. With clever use of digital stops, much of the unification of the original instrument was eliminated. The instrument features “automatic digital to pipe tuning” and MIDI capability. The overall results are especially good for congregational singing.

Following modifications and additions to the existing pipe organ including this beautiful pipe facade, there remained repeated mechanical failures that caused discontent of the musicians and congregation. Due to limited funds, the consensus was to install a Rodgers T908 three manual digital organ. The audio system was located in the respectful chambers to duplicate the imaging of the original instrument.

NOTE: The church gained such high compliments for the sound of their “new pipe” organ that the recommended plans to refurbish the pipes and marry them into the new organ have been delayed.
